Success Story: Carter Demetro
Carter Demetro
2024 C.A.M.P. Graduate
From Early Ambition to Accounting Success
Long before he ever stepped onto a college campus, Carter Demetro was already building a professional foundation. From caddying at Glenmoor Country Club and networking with professionals to creating large-scale tax reports for The Timken Company while still in high school, Carter demonstrated a level of drive and focus far beyond his years.
A 2024 graduate of C.A.M.P., Carter is now pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Accounting at the University of Akron, equipped with real-world experience, confidence, and a clear vision for his future.
Gaining Real-World Experience Early
Through two internships at The Timken Company, Carter gained invaluable professional skills that continue to shape his career path today.
“My time at The Timken Company taught me skills that I will use for the rest of my career. I learned how important it is to learn quickly, take good notes, ask questions, and communicate effectively with organizational leaders.”
– Carter Demetro
These early professional experiences helped Carter understand workplace expectations and prepared him to thrive as a young professional.
Academic Support That Pays Off
Carter credits C.A.M.P.’s ACT/SAT preparation sessions as one of the most impactful components of the program.
“Through the ACT/SAT classes, I was able to improve my score by 12 points, saving me thousands of dollars in tuition.”
In addition, C.A.M.P.’s roundtable sessions exposed Carter to a wide range of career options, some he had never previously considered. This helped him clarify which paths aligned with his interests and strengths.
One standout experience for Carter was a financial management discussion with Steve Burger, former C.A.M.P. Treasurer, which Carter described as a favorite and particularly influential.
Removing Barriers to Opportunity
C.A.M.P. also provided practical resources that removed real-life barriers to success. Through the program’s driver’s education incentive, Carter earned his driver’s license so he was able to commute to his internships independently.
College tours organized through C.A.M.P. were another critical resource. During these visits, Carter learned how to advocate for himself and successfully negotiate tuition, ultimately allowing him to live on campus and fully engage in college life.
Looking Ahead
With hands-on experience, financial literacy, and academic support behind him, Carter is well on his way to achieving his professional goals. His journey is a powerful example of how early investment, mentorship, and access to opportunity can change the trajectory of a young person’s future.
Carter’s success reflects the mission of C.A.M.P.: empowering students with the skills, confidence, and resources they need to thrive, both in college and beyond.
