Why Give to C.A.M.P.?
C.A.M.P.’s efforts are focused on Early College students because the city of Canton has the lowest median household income in all of Stark County, and “the poverty rate is more than twice that of the county as a whole,” according to the Stark County Community Assessment 2019 Edition. We believe the students in Canton City Schools therefore are among the most at risk of becoming trapped in the cycle of poverty.
Our primary overall goal is to help break this cycle by offering opportunities to students who exhibit exceptional talent and a strong drive to succeed academically. By equipping these students with the resources and support they need, we are confident they will gain a significant competitive advantage upon graduation, paving the way for a brighter future and changing the course of future generations.
Additionally, we recognize that beyond breaking the cycle of poverty, it is crucial to retain these bright minds in the local community after college graduation to contribute to the overall economic development of Stark County. C.A.M.P. seeks to retain this talent by partnering with local businesses (for internships), local colleges, ystark!, and United Way’s Young Leaders Society to engage our students in the community from the moment they join our program until they enter the local professional world and beyond.
